A radical student leader when he was in his twenties, a Partisan hero during the WWII, Vice President of Yugoslavia under the Tito regime, Milovan Djilas was a Communist by conviction. Expelled from the Yugoslav Communist Party in January 1954 after having appealed for “democratization” of the totalitarian Communist regime, he later hailed the Hungarian revolution of 1956 as the beginning of the end of Communism. His book is a political theorist’s manifesto—the Anti-Communist Manifesto.
